the 的后面可以加可数名词单数或复数，也可以加不可数

an electric cooker 听者不知道它是指哪一个电灶，它只
是泛指电灶中的某一个，所以用不定冠词an； electric 是以
元音音素开头的单词，前面的不定冠词要用"an", 不能用"a"。
cooker 前面的是定冠词the，是特指前面一句刚刚提到的那
电灶。

There is a table in the middle of the room.
房间的中央有张桌子。
in the middle of the room 在房间的中间
a table 是泛指一张桌子。
